Polish point of view
"It was a real one then," remembered Andrzej. "It was in a remote place. For two to three kilometres you were going through nothing and suddenly there was a curving dirt road. There were some tables but mainly people were walking round with goods in their hands. I bought a knife and chopsticks someone showed me from their sleeve. Of course it was illegal."
Until he was moved to a hotel, Andrzej stayed in an apartment. He said, "There were two types of buildings - Soviet from the 1930's and Soviet from the 1970's. These were manufactured in a factory from solid cement and then erected with cranes. The insulation was extremely bad and they had a lot of leaks. I was staying in one of these."
